Top 10 Cleaning Tips

We all know that Mrs Hinch has gotten us all crazy for brilliant cleaning tips. So, we are giving you 10 of SPh2ONGE’s favourite cleaning tips that we have come up with – just for you.

  1. Mattress Cleaning Tips

I’m sure you have dreams about just sticking your mattress in the washing machine and have it come out clean and fresh with no work at all! But we know this unfortunately isn’t the case. To freshen up your mattress you will only need baking soda, essential oil, and a hoover. Start by creating a mixture of 1 cup of baking soda and 4 drops of essential oil into a tight container – then shake until combined. Gently shake this mixture over the mattress, and then leave for 2 hours. It is important to leave the baking soda mixture to settle as it absorbs any body oils from the mattress. Once this is complete, just use the furniture brush attachment or a SPh2ONGE to brush away all the baking soda – this will leave you with a fresh and clean mattress!

  1. Microwave Cleaning Tips

As something we use to cook our food, we want our microwaves to be clean and sparkling – without any nasty germs. If this job hasn’t been ticked off your list in a while, then the grime becomes even harder to budge. But we have a great tip to banish these problems. All you will need is water, a sponge, a spray bottle, and lemon essential oil. Start by placing a damp sponge in the microwave and filling a spray bottle with water and 3-4 drops of essential oil. Spray the mixture on the top, bottom, and sides of the microwave to ensure all surfaces are covered. Next, put the microwave on a timer for 2 minutes and leave it do it its magic. Once the microwave is finished, leave the sponge until it isn’t too hot to touch and then wipe down all the surfaces. Works like magic – A Mrs Hinch worthy hack!

  1. Pets Cleaning Tips

Our pets are a beloved member of the family, but unfortunately make just as much mess as the rest of us – without even realising it! If you have a pet such as a dog or cat, then you will be familiar with shedding pet hair. For this simple hack all you need is a pair of rubber washing up gloves. The material of the gloves attracts the pet hair and sticks to it, so less hair caught up in your carpet. This hack is brilliant for any type of furnishing such as carpets, curtains, or rugs – Just simply put on the glove and rub your hand over the surface.

  1. Fridge Cleaning Tips

This may be one of the most neglected places in the house when it comes to cleaning. The thought of removing and storing all food while you clean doesn’t appeal to anyone – but it is definitely worth it! For this one you will need a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a lemon. Simply clear out the fridge until all surfaces are clear to clean. Grab your toothbrush and toothpaste and scrub away at any stains or build up of food deposits – the chemicals in the toothbrush are great at breaking down stains. Once this is complete just place half a lemon on each shelf to de-odourise and leave your fridge smelling fresh!

  1. Sink Cleaning Tips

It is proven that the sink contains more bacteria than the toilet seat – I bet you can’t wait for this tip now! For this, you will just need some soapy water, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide. Begin by washing the sink with soapy water to disinfect. Then spray the vinegar around the sink first, followed by the hydrogen peroxide, and leave to site for a few minutes. After this simply wipe it away with a SPh2ONGE cloth and once again rinse the sink to get rid of any residue. If you have a stainless steel sink, you can buff it with mineral oil to get an extra shine that even Mrs Hinch would be proud of!

  1. Broom Cleaning Tips

If you want to efficiently sweep up in your home, then one broom just won’t cut it. A great tip is to have a different broom for both indoors and outdoors. For inside your home, use a finer bristled brush to catch small crumbs and dust, and then for outdoor use get a larger bristled brush for jobs that need a stronger effort. When cleaning, always work from high surfaces to low surfaces, so leave sweeping to last. This means you pick up any dirt that has fallen from shelves and counters.

  1. Soft Towel Cleaning Tips

By using fabric softener, towels can lose their absorbency over time and become much less useful. To combat this all you need is white wine vinegar or 2 tennis balls. If using the vinegar, just add ¼ of a cup to a rinse cycle and let it work its magic. Or if you choose to use tennis balls just throw them in your dryer to keep the fabrics soft and banish static.

  1. Stain Cleaning Tips
  • Juice – Pat with a mixture of warm water and washing liquid
  • Wine – Pat with water and then switch to 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • Lipstick – Pat with nail varnish remover, then detergent solution, then rinse
  • Blood – Soak in salted cold water
  • Chewing gum – Cover in ice cubes until hard, then break off

  1. Outdoor Cleaning Tips
  • Wilted Flowers – Add a spoon of detergent to the vase to revive them.
  • Frosty Car Windows – Mix ¾ Vinegar and ¼ Water to a spray bottle and use on windows to avoid frost
  • Plant Pot Drainage – Use leftover packing peanuts to absorb excess water in plant pots

  1. Wardrobe Cleaning Tips

To keep your wardrobe organised, use clear storage boxes as you can identify what you are hiding in them and they can be wiped clean easily! It is easier to be brutal when deciding on what to throw out so you avoid having a cluttered wardrobe of items you don’t wear – only save what you reach for.
