Fridge Cleaning Tips!

Where is your favourite place in the house? The fridge! Ours too! But, since they’re always fully stocked with our favourite goodies, we don’t always get the opportunity to give them a deep clean and get them sparkling. A lot of bacteria and nasties can grow in our fridge as there is plenty of food being spilt, squashed, and going bad amongst the back of the fridge. We have selected some of our favourite fridge deep cleaning tips so you can get it sparkling in no time!

Check your dates!

Begin by taking all the items out of the fridge and store them somewhere cool (best to do this in the winter when you can store food in the outside chill!). It is a good idea to store your food categories together e.g. meat in one bag and veggies in the other – this avoids any contamination. As you take each item out, check the use by date and bin any food that is out of date. Any fresh food such as fruit and vegetables you can discard in a food recycling bin! This means that you can make note of any food that needs replacing and put it on your shopping list.

Shift those shelves!

Now it’s time to get the shelves out. These can easily be cleaned with a natural mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Just give them a quick scrub to get rid of any bacteria and spills and then rinse with warm water. This is where a SPh2ONGE cloth comes in handy – no drying time, just go over them in a flash!

Spritz, spray, splash!

Now for the main fridge where all the smells and spills are hiding. It is a great idea to use natural cleaning methods for inside the fridge to avoid any chemicals getting onto your food. Simply mix a solution of 1 part vinegar, to 3 parts water in a spray bottle to use as a disinfectant. Still got a lingering smell? Try dipping come cotton balls in vanilla extract and placing them in the doors of the fridge – your fridge will smell like freshly baked cookies! If you don’t have the time to wait for it to dry, just go over the surfaces with a SPh2ONGE cloth and it will be dry in no time.

Organisation time!

A great way to keep your fridge organised is my purchasing some plastic fridge containers so that you can stack all your produce inside, then simply slide each tray off the shelf when you need the contents. This saves endless time scouring the fridge for something hidden in the back and makes it easier to clean next time! When you are placing the items back in the fridge, just give them a quick wipe to make sure they haven’t got any drips that will ruin your freshly cleaned fridge.
